East Sac County Community School District Will Renegotiate Teacher Contracts Under New Law

The administration at the East Sac County Community School District will need to renegotiate teacher contracts because they did not manage to receive approval from the Board of Education before Iowa’s new collective bargaining changes went into effect. The new law eliminates most collective bargaining right for public workers. Many educators are concerned benefits and pay will be influence drastically as a result of the change, but Superintendent Barb Kruthoff says that will likely not be the outcome at East Sac.

She believes there may be some benefit for the district with the new law. Kruthoff says the new circumstances may make filling certain teaching positions easier.

The district plans to work with teachers on many aspects of the new contract negotiations. Teacher input is important to the administration when it comes to working through the negotiations, and Kruthoff wants the staff to work with the school moving forward.

East Sac’s current teacher contract expires June 30, and Iowa law requires negotiations to be complete by that date at the latest.
