Driver Blinded By Sun Rear-Ends Another Vehicle

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene of a property-damage, two-vehicle accident last Wednesday. At approximately 7:11 p.m., they responded to Highway 30, near Granite Ave. east of Arcadia. Seventy-nine-year-old Stanley Alvin Grundmeier of Arcadia was driving his 2008 Buick Lacrosse westbound in the slow lane and has just reached the crest of a hill. A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Joseph Grothe of Westside, was also westbound on Highway 30. Grothe says he looked down to adjust his radio. When he looked up, the sun was in his eyes and he was unable to see the Grundmeier vehicle and struck the rear end. There was an estimated $5,500 in damages to the Grundmeier car and $1,000 in damage to Grothe’s pickup. No injuries were reported.
