Coon Rapids Police Department Seeking To Fill Vacancies After Police Chief’s Retirement

Coon Rapid Chief of Police, Joel Roetman, tendered his notice of retirement to the city last year, and the search for his replacement has started. Roetman served in law enforcement for 36 years with 33 of those years in Coon Rapids. Roetman says the city will need to start refilling their police force considering his retirement and Officer Jake Shirbroun leaving to join the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

The city is already accepting applications for the soon-to-be vacant police chief position. Roetman says they are going to be sure they hire the right person for the job.

He does not foresee any chance the city will lack police coverage. If all things work out as planned, the positions will be filled before his last day on July 1.

He notes once Shirbroun completes his six month probation period with the Sheriff’s Office, he will likely remain on as a part-time officer. After Roetman’s retires, he plans to stay in Coon Rapids and looks forward to spending more time with his family. He intends to stay involved in the community as part of the Coon Rapids Development Board.
