September is Child Cancer Awareness Month and the Carroll High School (CHS) volleyball team is hosting a “Go Gold” night, on Tuesday, Sept. 26 to show their support for families coping with childhood cancer. Most people are familiar with the popular “Pink Out” events held across the nation, but the team decided to go a different route this year. One senior on the volleyball squad, Taylor Woosley, originally proposed the idea to wear gold. Her brother, Bo Johnson, was diagnosed with a rare Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) when he was only a few months old. Woosley wanted to find a way to spread awareness.
The volleyball girls immediately jumped on board with the idea. The team started raising funds by selling Go Gold t-shirts. The total amount raised will be announced during the game Tuesday. Money raised from the sales will go to support CureSearch, a pediatric cancer research organization, and the Rainbow House in Omaha, a place for patients and families to stay while undergoing treatment. Marissa Tunning, a senior player, says the whole team is committed to making the night a success.

Fans are requested to wear their brightest yellow and gold clothing. The team will be accepting free-will donations to benefit the Rainbow House and CureSearch. As for Woosley’s brother, Bo, he has completed a full course of treatment and celebrated his second birthday last Thursday. Go Gold begins Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. with the freshman and JV matches. Varsity starts at 7 p.m.
