After two and a half days of testimony last week, a Cherokee County jury found a Cleghorn man guilty of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, and supplying alcohol to a minor, a serious misdemeanor. The charges against 44-year-old Eddie D. DeLong stemmed from an incident in July of 2016, when the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a sexual assault involving a minor female that had occurred at DeLong’s residence. The Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted an investigation and DeLong was arrested and charged on April 5, 2017. DeLong will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing, scheduled for Feb. 2, 2018.
