Carroll County Sheriff Urges Caution On Roadways Throughout The Day

Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and county trucks have been out treating some of the major roadways in our area, but Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, said that a clear spot on one does not mean it is smooth sailing on all of them.

Although there was little to no traffic this morning, Pingrey said he did come upon a semi-truck trailer that had slid off of Highway 141 and into the ditch west of Coon Rapids. The National Weather Services is calling for a return of precipitation later this morning and into the afternoon, and Pingrey says since we have no idea whether it will be rain, freezing rain, sleet or possibly even snow, everyone should be taking appropriate precautions.

He has some added words of advice for those who find it necessary to go out in today’s conditions.

Pingrey added that getting out on foot can be just as dangerous as driving unless pedestrians employ some form off traction device on the extremely slick conditions on sidewalks and in parking lots. The Carroll Communications Center will provide updates if travel restrictions are put into place and more information can be found on the Iowa DOT road conditions website at www.511ia.org.
