Teams and cancer-survivors gathered Wednesday evening to launch the 2017 American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay for Life fundraising season. Carroll County continued its run of being in the top ten supporters of Relay for Life, and ACS Relay Specialist, Kim Durst presented the third place Per Capita Fundraising Award to this year’s committee. She says last year’s event was a huge success, and Carroll County teams are already setting a great pace for this one.
The theme for this Relay, “Carry the Fire”, is a more serious tone than the national theme of “Paint the World Purple”. Co-chair, Brandon Vonnahme, told guests it serves to remind survivors, teams and families of cancer victims why the Relay for Life is so important.
Michael DeSanti, a special guest speaker and author attended the rally. DeSanti shares how attitude and support can make all the difference in the fight against cancer. His father, who had pancreatic cancer for 8-years before passing away, told DeSanti how his frame of mind helped him fight.
DeSanti will be offering a full presentation about positive attitude and health choices during a presentation tonight at the Carrollton Centre. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., and cost is $75 per person. Twenty-five dollars of every ticket sale will be donated back to the Carroll County Relay for Life.
