Carroll City Council Will Again Be Getting General Overview Of Preliminary Savings By Phasing Library And City Hall Projects

The Carroll City Council will begin getting the Highway 30 and Grant Road intersection widening project ready for the next step and bid-letting at Monday’s regular meeting. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says they are finishing up some acquisitions and expects the construction to start next spring. The City Hall and Library projects will also be on the agenda again at Monday’s meeting as the architectural and design firm, OPN, will submit a fee proposal to begin work on the next phase.

Pogge-Weaver says he has seen the estimates to date and it is good news in his mind.

The projections, according to Pogge-Weaver, represent the worst-case scenarios. They took every high percentage in the cost savings and a lower percentage in moving it up to one phase. He adds that as they go through design, the contingency numbers will change and they will be able to hone in on better estimates. The group will also discuss the proposed leases for library and city office space at a high level at this time. He expects the Library Foundation to present their commitment to paying half of all the costs the city will incur moving forward as part of their $2.5 million commitment. Other items on the agenda for the council will be the monument signage proposal from Confluence for the east entrance to Carroll and a request for rural water to be allowed to run into the Danzer addition. The trail projects are substantially completed, but there is a change that needs to be made because they still do not have a crossing over the tracks along Carroll Street.

They will then begin setting up the schedule for the 2018/19 budget. The meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the second-floor chambers of the Farner Government Building. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
