A Colorado man was arrested this weekend on drug charges after attempting to flee from authorities following an attempted theft. At approximately 5:58 p.m., the Carroll Police Department responded to Hy-Vee in the CitiCentre Plaza. Officers were told that the suspect, 27-year-old Nicholas Alex Biechler, of Fort Collins, Co., had taken off southbound behind the new Bomgaar’s location. Law enforcement pursued Biechler on foot and apprehended him after a short chase. He was observed ditching a small package while fleeing. A search discovered a Swisher Sweets pouch which contained a small baggy of a leafy green substance and a marijuana cigarette. Biechler was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance—marijuana, a simple misdemeanor. He was also wanted on a number of arrested warrants from unrelated incidents. The Iowa State Patrol assisted in the chase.
