A Local Religious Leader Passes Away

A man who has impacted the lives of many in the area passed away last week after losing his battle with cancer. Father Robert Gralapp was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1964 after finishing his studies at Mt. St. Bernard’s Seminary in Dubuque. Gralapp first came to our region when he joined the Holy Family Parish in Lidderdale as its pastor in 1975 and attended to St. Elizabeth Seton parish in Glidden. He moved to Sioux City in 1979 and traveled between churches for some time before returning to Carroll as the leader of the St. Lawrence Parish in 1991. He served the remainder of his time as a priest in local communities, from 1994 to 2010 as priest of the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla, and from 2010 to 2014 at Sacred Heart Church in both Manning and Manilla. Gralapp retired from service in 2014 and spent the remainder of his days in Carroll. Visitation for Robert Gralapp will be Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in LeMars from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the funeral services the following morning at 10:30 a.m., also at the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
