Subject Threatens Self And Others In Carroll Standoff Thursday Night

The Carroll Police Department responded to a report of a despondent individual in a vehicle outside of the Robinson Ruhnke, PC accounting offices at 903 East Highway 30 Thursday evening. Chief Brad Burke said a family’s concerns alerted them to the possibility this person would harm themselves or others.

Burke said the subject’s mother was with him in the vehicle and authorities were able to make contact with her. She confirmed he had made threats, but she could not verify whether a weapon was present. In the essence of public safety, the Carroll Fire Department and Carroll County Emergency Medical Services were called in to assist with blocking off a section of Highway 30, from Grant Road east to Monterey Street.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol also assisted at the scene. Burke said the subject was in custody at 9:31 p.m. and transported to St. Anthony Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Highway 30 was reopened at approximately 9:45 p.m., but authorities remained on the scene until shortly after 10 p.m.

With charges still pending, the subjects name has not yet been released.
