Sac County Welcomes New K-9, Peaty

The Sac County Sheriff’s Office has added a new member to their team with the addition of Peaty, a three-year-old German Shephard who joined the department on May 20. Peaty, who is partnered with Deputy Jonathan Meyer, has been trained in criminal apprehension, handler protection, building searches, tracking, article searches and narcotics detection by North Iowa K-9 in Humboldt. Peaty and Deputy Meyer will go through several stages of training, beginning with the current bonding phase. Meyer will then undergo intensive training beginning on June 13. Peaty joins K-9 Toby, who has been working with Deputy Matt Biede for the past six years. The cost for Peaty and his training totals $12,000, with nearly $10,000 of that expense coming from money seized during drug arrests. The K-9 team is partially funded by Sac County and through donations from the communities served.
