Parents Can Interest Kids In Learning Through Several Simple Steps

It takes effort to get young children interested in learning and reading, but there are some very simple steps to incorporate learning into everyday activities. Children learn new words through conversation and reading, and parents can use everyday talk to make connections for their kids. Dr. David Brown, an Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach human sciences specialist, says it as simple as just talking about the objects around them.

He says getting a child to associate words with a concept is a simple as reading to your child while following along with your finger or using refrigerator magnets with pictures to form a connection.

For more information on how children learn, ISU Extension and Outreach has a number of publications available by following the link included with this story on our website.
