Medicare Annual Notice Of Change Released And SHIIP Wants To Remind People They Can Save Money

By the end of September every year, people with Medicare Part D plans should have received the “Annual Notice of Change” to explain changes to the drugs covered, benefits and costs associated with their coverage. Only 13% of people with these Part D plans change their coverage each year on average, and relatively few people use the open enrollment period from Oct. 1 through Dec. 7 to change their plans. In Iowa, 50 percent of the people who received help from the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) changed plans, and those that switched had a combined saving of $16 million. Kris Gross from SHIIP says, “We’re asking everyone to remind family, friends and neighbors about those important dates. We don’t want anyone to miss the opportunity to make their choice of plans for 2017.” People looking for help to do a comparison of plans can contact SHIIP and determine if money saving is possible for Medicare users by calling them at 1-800-851-4664 and finding the nearest SHIIP counselor. The 2017 Medicare drug plans are available today on the Medicare website by following the link included with this story on our website.
