Drivers Escape Serious Injury In Semi/SUV Accident Near Halbur

Both drivers were lucky to escape serious injury in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of 240th Street and Granite Ave. at the north edge of Halbur yesterday (Monday) afternoon. At approximately 12:35 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to find that a 2013 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer, driven by 49-year-old Rahn Edward Eischeid of Carroll, was traveling north on Granite Ave. Eischeid told authorities his mirror blocked the view of an approaching vehicle. The 2013 Yukon Denali, driven by 43-year-old Kristina Kay Hinners of Arcadia, was that vehicle, traveling east on 240th Street. Eischeid slowed for the yield sign at the intersection, but then pulled out into the path of the Hinners vehicle, which struck the trailer. The momentum caused the semi-trailer to jackknife and the Hinners Yukon became trapped underneath it. Hinners complained of possible injuries but was transported by a private party at a later time. There was an estimated $6,000 in damage to the semi-trailer and $25,000 in damage to the Hinners SUV. Eischeid was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device.
