Demonstrators to protest against Grassley at event in Carroll

Late Tuesday afternoon Carroll Broadcasting was notified that the Why Courts Matter Iowa coalition is planning a public demonstration on Wednesday morning, March 30, near St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll prior to a private event which Senator Chuck Grassley is scheduled to attend. The group is criticizing Grassley’s controversial stance to hold off on considering any Supreme Court nomination hearings until next year.

Grassley, a 35 year incumbent Senator, has scaled back the number of public events during a Senate recess following the scrutiny, and according to members of the coalition Iowans are calling for Grassley to “Do Your Job.” They’ve reported difficulty in reaching anyone at any of Grassley’s offices, and in response the Why Courts Matter Iowa coalition set up a hotline called “Where’s Chuck” in order to learn of the Senator’s whereabouts and private events. Tomorrow morning the group plans to gather at 9:45 am at the public sidewalk on the corner of South Clark Street and Anthony Street near the hospital in order to protest.

The group stated in a press release that the public demonstration is means to stand up for every Iowan who is disappointed in Grassley and his obstruction. The coalition is affiliated with the Why Courts Matter coalition and is led by Iowa Citizen Action Network, Americans for Democratic Action Iowa, Progress Iowa, and One Iowa.
