City Of Denison Asks For And Receives Resignation Of Police Chief

Following a special meeting of the Denison City Council yesterday (Thursday) morning,  Mayor, Dan Leinen requested and received the resignation of Denison Police Chief, John Emswiler. The Denison Bulletin Review reports the request came about due to a growing lack of confidence in the Chief. Emswiler had been reprimanded in March for photo-shopped images on his work computer that were deemed racist and sexist and included members of his department, but Leinen claims the request for Emswiler’s resignation was based on ongoing performance issues that had been detailed in his personnel file. The confidentiality of that information, Leinen said, prevented him from going into detail. At yesterday’s council meeting, members discussed the adoption of a new city code enforcement position, requiring a certified officer, for which Emswiler indicated an interest in filling. Leinen said consideration of Emswiler for that position would be discussed by the city council at a future date.
