CCSD to participate in Free Summer Meal program sponsored by USDA

This summer the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) will be participating in the USDA Summer Meals Program that aims to provide children with access to healthy meals that include fruits and vegetables throughout the summer months. CCSD Finance Director Gary Bengston says in order to qualify for the program certain criteria had to be met.

However, Adams Elementary, which is centrally located, does qualify for the program which begins Monday, June 6 and runs through Friday, August 12. Bengston says the meals will also tie in nicely with the summer school schedule.

The program is open to anyone ages zero to eighteen with breakfast being served from 8:10 am to 10:10 am and lunch from 10:45 am to 12:30 pm with no reservations required. Kumper Catholic School is also participating in the program with their meal site located at their high school where around 25 students ate meals daily last summer. In the near future CCSD plans to post a monthly menu online and also set up a Facebook page so daily offerings can be viewed. The USDA will reimburse the school $2.13 per each breakfast meal served and $3.75 for a lunch. For more information about the USDA’s program contact Adams Elementary at 792-8040.
