We all know that our area is a great place to work and play, but according to a recent study by SmartAsset, we are also ranked as one of the best places to retire. Area communities were ranked according to their recreational and social offerings by indexing the number of recreation and retirement centers and the percentage of the city’s population seniors represent. Carroll came into the top ten at number eight with a social index of 27.24; edged out by only a little over half of a percent by Harlan, whose social ranking was 27.84.
