Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Notified Of Accident By Healthcare Staff

At approximately 8:16 p.m. on Saturday, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was notified by staff at St. Anthony Regional Hospital about a motor vehicle accident that had occurred earlier in the day. They arrived to interview one of the injured parties, 15-year-old Zach G. Carroll of Glidden about the incident. Carroll said that at approximately 5:30 p.m. he was riding as a passenger in a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 that was driven by 16-year-old Cody Warren Anthofer of Coon Rapids. The interview and an investigation at the scene revealed that Anthofer was driving southbound on Velvet Ave, near 170th Street south of Lanesboro, when he swerved to the left, overcorrected to the right and entered the west shoulder. He overcorrected again to the left, causing the vehicle to skid counterclockwise and enter the east ditch facing north. Upon entering the ditch, the vehicle rolled onto the passenger side before coming to rest near a fence line. The vehicle was later located in a farm drive at 16376 Velvet Ave. It had suffered severe damage and was destroyed. At approximately 10:12 p.m. Saturday night, the driver was located and stated that a couple of deer had run onto the roadway and he swerved to avoid hitting them. Anthofer complained of possible injuries and was transported by private party for evaluation. Carroll and another passenger, 15-year-old Nick Jerry Anthofer of Coon Rapids were both transported to St. Anthony by private party for treatment of possible minor injuries. Cody Anthofer was cited for failure to maintain control.
