Bicyclist loses life following vehicle vs. bicycle accident north of Glidden

On Friday evening, April 22, a bicyclist lost her life north of Glidden following a bicycle/single-vehicle accident. The incident occurred on County Road E-26 east of Sycamore Avenue at approximately 6:42 pm as 60 year-old Joleen Marie Stork of Glidden was traveling west on E-26 on a Mongoose mountain bike. A 2005 Chevy Silverado, driven by 83 year-old Walter James Wenck of Carroll, was also traveling westbound on E-26. Wenck did not see the Stork bicycle as he approached from behind, and the Chevy hit Stork’s bicycle throwing the rider into the north ditch. Authorities were called to the scene where Stork was pronounced dead by the Carroll County Coroner. The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident with assistance from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Lidderdale EMS. The Silverado was towed from the scene by Performance Service.
