West-Central Region’s Unemployment numbers for August

The state of Iowa’s monthly unemployment rate for August of 2015 experienced a decrease falling to 3.7% from a revised 4.9% in August of 2014. A closer look at eight west-central Iowa counties by the Western Iowa Advantage Region’s monthly unemployment rate also shows a decrease to 3.0% from 3.9% during the same timeframe when compared to last year’s numbers for the region.

Specific unemployment rates for each included county were calculated with Adair County at 2.7%, Audubon at 3.3%, Carroll at 2.4%, Crawford at 3.2%, Greene at 3.4%, Guthrie at 3.0%, Ida at 2.9%, and Sac County at a 3.2% unemployment rate. Various economic indicators, including employment trends, were used to calculate the rates for each county. Total employment in the region increased slightly from 48,226 from 46,940 in August of 2014. As a nation the U.S. unemployment rate was higher than the region’s at 5.1% this past August.
