Wall Lake fixes issues tied to flooded residential basements this past summer

Between August and September of this year approximately 24” of rain fell in the Wall Lake area saturating the land and making it hard for excess water to drain away. One location in particular saw multiple residents with flooded basements in a northwest section of town when the area was inundated with water according to City Clerk Chris Rodman.

The field tiles were incorporated into the city’s sewer system around 1975 when the Highland Street neighborhood was created. Rodman says a company has since cleaned the storm sewers using a high pressure water system, known as a Jetter, to cut out the tree roots. Plus they’ve installed something new.

The installation of the clean-out will also make it easier for crews to maintain the lines in the future.
