Smith Retiring After Nearly 30 Years As Golf Course Superintendent

Carroll Municipal Golf Course Superintendent, Dan Smith, has announced he will be retiring effective Dec. 31. City Manager, Gerald Clausen, said Smith has been a dedicated and valued employee since 1986.

The golf course superintendent does not manage the clubhouse at the municipal course, but he is responsible for care and maintenance of the grounds and in relating to the people out on the course enjoying this lifetime sport.

The city will advertise the position through organizations where applicants would be searching for golf course management opportunities. Clausen said, typically, applicants will have some formal education in turf management, some may have taken golf course management courses, but they must be licensed pesticide applicators. They are hoping to have someone in place in February, no later than the first of March. For more information about the position, contact Parks and Rec Director, Jack Wardell, at 792-1000.
