Local Students March Into Top Spots At 58th Carroll Band Day

It was a beautiful, crisp Saturday morning as students from 12 area Middle and High School bands took to the streets of Carroll in the 58th Annual Band Day celebration; and those musicians did their local schools proud. Taking home the third place trophy in the Middle School Class 2A category was the Kuemper Middle School Band, directed by Kate Tomaskeiwicz. East Sac County, directed by Bill Kolbe came in second while Cherokee Middle School, directed by Casey Kingdon won first. Kuemper High School, also directed by Kate Tomaszkiewicz came in with a second place finish in the Class 2A category. Brian Mahler’s East Sac County band received third place honors while Roland-Story went home with the big trophy. The Carroll Community High School marching band, directed by Laura Rodriguez also garnered a second place trophy in the 3A division with Wes Anderson and the Greene County High School marching band taking first. In class 1A High Schools, Ar-We-Va’s band, directed by Dennis Freking, came in third with Glidden-Ralston director, Dean Lamp, leading his band to a second place finish and Guthrie Center, led by Kyra Babcock, going home with a first place win. Emma Mortensen from East Sac County High School was named the winner in the Drum Major category, while Kevin Masemann and the Roland-Story High School Band took home the top spot as the Best Band at the 58th Carroll Chamber of Commerce Band Day.
