The Carroll City Council held an annual planning session this past Saturday and identified the key categories to be addressed in their strategic plan. One are of focus is on the city services and facilities, which included discussion of the controversial topic of the library. Mayor Adam Shweers shared the consensus of the council during that session to table the project.
He added that tabling the project now also provides leeway for the library board of trustees to implement some of their ideas.
Schweers said he believed there were members on the board who have marketing experience and can work to educate the public on the great job the staff is doing at meeting the needs of Carroll.
But in the long run, he said they all agreed it was best to take a step back at this time and continue to engage the public and let the usage numbers speak for themselves in the future.
Schweers added, hopefully, in the next several years after education the public, they will get more enthusiasm and bring the project back for a vote.
