Manning Fire Department receives grant


The Manning Fire Department will receive the grant they had applied for through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  Iowa Senator Tom Harkin announced today that Manning Fire and Rescue would be one of nine fire departments that were approved.  The over $264,000 grant will help them purchase a new pumper-tanker truck which is estimated to cost around $275,000.  Fire

Carroll Conservation Department to take people on trip to Sand HIlls


The Carroll County Conservation Department is teaming up with other area county conservation departments to take interested people to the Sand Hills in Nebraska in March to watch cranes as they migrate north.  Carroll County Naturalist Matt Weitrich says it will be a very fun trip.

Man arrested in stolen vehicle and forgery case


38-year-old Chad Wadsley of Fort Dodge was booked into the Greene County Jail Wednesday at noon after he was arrested on a warrant for 2 counts of forgery, 2nd degree theft and two counts of 5th degree theft.  The charges were filed following an investigation into a stolen vehicle and forged checks in Churdan back in May 2011.  Wadsley is currently being held in the Greene County

Bruner announces run for Iowa District Senate Seat


Mary Bruner of Carroll announced Wednesday morning that she will seek the democratic nomination for the District 26 Seat on the Iowa Senate currently held by Republican Steve Kettering who announced late last year that he would not seek re-election.  Bruner says she decided to run after talking with her family and friends and feels Western Iowa needs to keep a voice in Des Moines.

Northwestern College Baseball Signs First Team All-State Player


Josh Turner (Ogden, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern, beginning this fall.

Turner, the son of Mark and Joette, is a 6’5” pitcher/infielder from Ogden High School. Last season Ogden finished 20-5. Turner was named First Team All-State, First Team All-District, and First Team All-Conference as a junior. Turner finished with a 7-1

Grand View's Thompson Nails Down NAIA Wrestler of the Week Award



Eric Thompson of Grand View (Iowa) has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Thompson was selected based on his performances from Jan. 23 - 29.

Thompson, a 6-foot, 285 lbs., sophomore from Shell Rock, Iowa, went 6-0 last week in the heavyweight class at two separate events. His highlight came with a 5-2 decision over NCAA Division I
