A Rededication of the statue of Chief Black Hawk at Lake View, IA, will be held Labor Day, September 5, 2016, at the statue at 1PM. People are urged to bring lawn chairs, sun hats and sunglasses.
The newly landscaped area is now handicap-accessible and a kiosk installed with pictures detailing sculptor, Harry Stinson of the U. of Iowa, working under the auspices of the CWA program. The dedication was held Labor Day, 1934, at which time the announcement that the name of the lake would officially be Black Hawk Lake. The lake had had 3 previous names-Boyer, Walled Lake, and Wall Lake. It is the southernmost lake in the United States carved out by glaciers.
