Manning, Iowa -- 25-year-old Justin Weeks of Manning was awarded a Purple Heart for actions in Afghanistan this past weekend at Camp Dodge in Johnston. Weeks who is assigned to company A, 1st battalion, 168th infantry, 2nd brigade combat team, 34th infantry of the Iowa National Guard suffered a concussion on April 25th in the Paktiya Province. He was injured during a multi rocket-propelled grenade attack while his troop was engaged in direct combat. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president of the United States to any member of the armed forces who while serving in the armed forces is killed, or may die from being wounded in action. The unit weeks served in arrived in Afghanistan in November, 2010 and returned home in July, 2011.
