Lake View, Iowa -- Lake View was selected to be an overnight stop for the 2012 great bicycle ride across Iowa. The announcement was made Saturday with the Lake View stop scheduled as the third night on July 23rd. It will be the fourth time RAGBRAI stopped over night in Lake View having previously stopped in 1975, 1995, and 2004. This summer’s RAGBRAI will begin in Sioux Center on July 21st and ends 471 miles later in Clinton on July 28th. Lake view is the smallest of the towns featured this year and was chosen partially because it’s a popular tourist destination having been named as the state of Iowa’s 2011 Tourism Community of the Year. One draw for Lake View as well maybe the newly paved Sauk Rail Trail which would allow RAGBRAI participants a little off road time. Riders will enter Lake View from Cherokee and will travel 62 miles and climb 2,062 feet. After leaving Lake View riders will head to Webster City which is 81.2 miles away. Other overnights stops this year include Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids, Anamosa and Clinton.
