Jefferson, Iowa -- A casino could be in the works for Greene County. The county board of supervisors voted Monday to support the establishment of a gaming, convention and entertainment facility within the county limits. The idea has been batted around for several months and groups and organizations supporting its development will begin to take the next steps in trying to obtain a license to build the facility. The county Monday discussed the issues and felt a facility would increase the tax base of Greene County substantially. The casino is expected to create 250-300 new jobs. Greene County Supervisors felt it would help them provide necessities and amenities that are desired by residents throughout the county. They plan to petition for a special election to allow voters in Greene County to determine whether or not they wish a new casino be built in Greene County.
